Choosing colourful plants for your aquarium

Post by Sweetie »

I've got about 45 plants in my 520L tank, and they're all thriving. I'm looking to add some extra colour to the mix - any plant suggestions would be great.

Not fussed about the growth rate, as long as they're healthy. I'm assuming there are some non-green options out there, I've seen some gorgeous purple-tinged plants on here. Would love some recommendations.

You might want to consider adding some red wendtii crypts to your tank, they're really pretty and can add that pop of colour you're looking for.

I think you'll love the brown hues of ludwigia, and if red's more your thing, red flame sword and rubin swords are stunning options. If you want to add some color to the top, red root floaters are a great choice.

Red root floaters do look nice, just been browsing online and I haven't seen them in any of my local stores, not sure if I'll be able to find them.

I've got a 520L tank with around 45 plants, all looking healthy and thriving. I'm after adding some more colour to the mix. Any plant recommendations would be great, I'm not fussed about growth rates. I've seen some lovely purple hints on plants here, so I'm hoping to find something similar.

Here's my recent shopping list.

Background plants:
Ludwigia palustris - Bright red and a decent size, just what I'm looking for.

Midground Plants:
Alternanthera reineckii Rosanervig - This one's a slow grower, but great for mid to back placement with its broad leaf. Make sure to get the Rosanervig or mini variety, trust me, you don't want it too big.

Cryptocoryne beckettii - Perfect for filling gaps in wood, this small crypt has a lovely red stem and green leaf. You can even grow it right on the wood.

Echinodorus Reni - This small Echinodorus has a beautiful red to green colour and a broad, rounded leaf. Really adds some visual interest.

Bucephalandra Kedagang - With its small red stem and green broad/long leaf, this one's a winner. Plus, it can get a nice blue shimmer on the leaves, and you can attach it to wood.

Cryptocoryne albida Brown - This tiny crypt is a great addition with its low-growing red/Brown leaves.

You can find it online, that's where I got mine from, you've just got to look around a bit.
