maintaining a thriving planted tank
maintaining a thriving planted tank
Looking for ways to improve my tank setup - any advice would be appreciated.
Re: maintaining a thriving planted tank
I'd suggest adding floating and submerged plants to your tank - it gives the fish some nice hiding spots. Looks nice, btw.
Re: maintaining a thriving planted tank
Neon tetras, they're jungle fish from South America, so they love the darker tank vibe. Floating plants would be a big help, and they're super social, so keep 'em in a group of six or more. Blocking one side with a background picture is a good idea too. Try attaching some Java Ferns or Java moss to the rocks, it'll give 'em plenty of hiding spots.

I'm thinking of just going with a black background, it's simple and works well. I had 5 neons and lost one, so I'm being cautious about overstocking the tank.oldraider wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 12:23 pm Neon tetras, they're jungle fish from South America, so they love the darker tank vibe. I've got a 55-gallon tank, home to a mix of about 30 tetras - neon, ember, and red eye. For floating plants, I've found hornwort and water sprite work well. I also plant them in the gravel, they absorb the nutrients they need from the water.

Moneywort's a great option too, easy to care for and won't break the bank. It absorbs nutrients from the water, which is a plus. I also have those sevenflake moss balls, but I've got a variety of other plants as well. Any of the ones I've mentioned would work well in your tank.
