creating a miniature garden on driftwood

Post by travisor »

Hi everyone
I've got a newly cycled tank with some driftwood that's been in there the whole time I was cycling it - about six weeks now.
I'm looking for some low-key plants to attach to it, nothing too flashy.
I'll have six corydoras in there, and maybe something else, still deciding.
Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

For a low-key setup, I'd go with moss, anubias or Java fern - buce's also a good option.

Try epiphytic plants like Java fern or Anubias for a more subtle look on your driftwood. They can be easily attached using a nylon cord or something similar.

Among the options mentioned, Anubias is the most forgiving, especially if you go with A.barteri or coffeefolia, or the "Lynxa" variety. The latter stays compact, with leaves that take years to form a decent-sized clump.

Personally, I prefer a combination of tying and gluing. The tie keeps the plant secure while the glue sets. Relying solely on glue can be problematic, as gravity or a curious fish might undo your work. Those super glues don't dry instantly underwater – it can take a couple of hours.

Once the glue has set, you can snip off the line if you prefer.
