does a peacock prefer current in the tank?
does a peacock prefer current in the tank?
evening all, noticed my peacocks just chillin in the top right corner of the tank today, right where the spray bar is pointing up, not down. got me thinkin, are they avoidin the current in the rest of the tank? decided to try somethin, pointed the left side spray bars up and now they're just lazin around. made me wonder, do peacocks even deal with much current in the wild? if not, i'm thinkin of just pointin all my spray bars up to the surface, see if it makes a difference with the current in the lower parts of the water.
Re: does a peacock prefer current in the tank?
Some parts of the lake can get pretty rough, waves crashing against the rocks and all, but I'm guessing the haps and peacocks tend to stick to the calmer areas. They seem pretty active to me, don't they? I mean, a bit of current shouldn't bother them too much, they're sturdy fish, just as long as it's not blasting them across the tank.

Depends what you mean by peacocks, I'm guessing you're on about the cichlids? They can handle current, no worries, but if you've got gobies in the mix, that's different. If it's the cichlids struggling, I'd say take a look at your water quality, that's more likely the issue.

My aulonocara, they're a bit different, always hiding under fast currents, avoiding direct flow, even seeking shelter under internals. Generally, they seem pretty laid back, not like the mbuna, which are always on the go.

thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. dougmac here. noticed my peacocks aren't totally avoiding current, just the strong direct flow. they're happy to swim around the tank, just not in the direct path of the spray bars. water parameters are all good, so that's not the issue. cheers, james
