my large cichlid aquarium setup

Post by floriken »

Just a quick video of my tank, was wondering if you guys had any feedback or if you like the setup.

I had the air stone moved to the side, just temporarily while I was cleaning behind the rocks.

Would appreciate any constructive criticism, thanks.

I think it looks great, really clear and tidy.
Not jealous at all, honestly.
My main criticism would be that it's not in my living room, that's about it.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the kind words. If I ever decide to call it quits on the hobby, I'll definitely keep you in mind. You can have the tank and all the jealousy that comes with it.

Hi floriken, I can only imagine how great it must feel to unwind in front of that tank after a long day.

One thing that caught my attention, and I'm only bringing it up because I think it could take your tank to the next level, is that the layout seems pretty evenly distributed. Adding some variation in rock heights or depths could create some really interesting focal points. Similarly, grouping your plants in certain areas could add some nice visual contrast.

By the way, I love the black background – what did you end up using for it? It looks fantastic.

Thanks for the feedback, harmonybob.
Adding more large rocks is definitely an option, but I've got two concerns holding me back - the weight on the glass, and my cichlids are notorious diggers, I don't want a rockslide on my hands.
I've tried to keep the lowest points covered to break lines of sight and give my fish plenty of hiding spots - you can see the biggest cave on the right-hand side, it's been my socolofi's home since day one.
The black background is just acrylic jet black paint, nothing fancy, but it really pops with my lighting - a daylight white bulb at the front and a marine blue at the back, it creates some nice shadows and depth.
Thanks again for your comment, and I'm glad I could help with the background info.
