breeding betta fish: my experience

Post by TimeLord »

I'm really interested in learning more about betta breeding. I've decided to give it a shot and I'm excited about the process. I think it's fascinating to breed them and I have to admit, I've always been a sucker for baby fish. Can anyone with experience share some info with me?

Wish I could help, but I've got no experience with betta breeding. Still, I think it's awesome you're giving it a shot - good luck with it.

@TimeLord, I've had a few experiences with betta breeding. It's pretty interesting, and the babies are adorable. I can give you some general info if you'd like.

My betta breeding approach is pretty straightforward. I select a male and female that I think are a good match, then separate them for a few weeks to condition them with live foods. This gets them in top shape for breeding. After that, I move them to a bare-bottom tank with about 4 inches of water - the heater's set to 80 degrees. So, yesterday I...

Found a great resource for betta breeding - modestfish.com/breeding-betta-fish-guide. Been searching for a reliable site with accurate info, and this one's been the best so far.

I'm not exactly a pro at breeding domesticated bettas, I've got zero hands-on experience with that.

Best of luck with the breeding. One thing I've come across is that the veiltail gene is dominant, so if one of the parents is a veiltail, all the offspring will be veiltail too. I'm curious to see your pair - would you mind posting some pictures?

Good luck with the betta breeding, by the way, how's your veiltail pair doing?
