I've been dealing with a pretty frustrating issue lately - my frogspawns and Hammers just aren't doing great. I've tried moving them around the tank, from high to low lighting and adjusting the flow, but nothing seems to make a difference. I've even dipped them before and they'd show some improvement for a bit, but then start declining again. They just won't extend fully.
I recently picked up a new frogspawn from Fragniappe and it was thriving for about a week, but then it started pulling back too. So, I decided to take them all out and dip them with Coral Rx. That's when I noticed a bunch of tiny, wiggly things in the cup - maybe PODs? I'm not really sure. Do PODs live inside euphyllias or could these be some kind of nuisance bug?
I tried to get a better look at them, but they were too small for my camera to capture. If someone could share some pics of what these might be, I'd really appreciate it.
I also noticed what I think are vermetid snails all over the stalks. I don't remember them being there when I got the frags, but now there are a lot of them. You can see them in the video I posted.
Here's the vid: https://vimeo.com/122891425. Check out the frag in the middle when it starts - is that a clam? Freaked me out.
Decline of frogspawn and hammer corals
Re: Decline of frogspawn and hammer corals
Those little white dots are a real pain, I've dealt with them before and they're a nightmare. If that's what you're seeing, I've found Bayer to be effective but it's a process - they can leave eggs behind, so repeated dips every few days for a week or so is the way to go. Bayer's gentle on the corals, just make sure to keep the infected ones isolated from your healthy euphyllia.
Re: Decline of frogspawn and hammer corals
Quarantine tanks, folks - this is why they're essential. I'm surprised your water parameters weren't the first thing you checked after seeing that new frag decline so quickly.
Also, something to consider, though it might not be related - have you observed your tank about 2 hours after lights out using a red light? I recall having some upset coral and one night, I caught an 8-inch bristle worm crawling all over my SPS and ZOA's.

Yeah, those little white spots are everywhere, even in my sump. Had to clean out my ATO float switch this morning, they were causing it to get stuck. I swear, I just cleaned it 2 months ago.
I'm at my wit's end, is there a solution to get rid of these snails without tearing down the tank? Manual removal is not an option at this point. I had some kinda spawning event with them a few weeks back, white spots all over the glass in the DT.
Here are my parameters, btw:
Salinity 35, KH 8.2, Mg 1300, Ca 445, Ph 8.1, NO3 0, NH3 0, N02 0, P04 0 (Low range Hannah), Temp 79.3. Fish load is minimal, 1 tang, 2 clowns, 1 Chromis. 60G total volume, Hydra 52, running carbon and GFO, Vertex Omega 130.
