I brought home a small aussie from my LFS yesterday and I'm a bit concerned - it's got these bubbly tentacles on one side.
I remember they had it next to a torch coral in the store, so I'm wondering if it's possible the elegance got stung from being too close.
Thoughts?
No signs of tissue inflation or webbing that I've noticed, so hopefully it's not ECS.
Elegance coral bubbles
Re: Elegance coral bubbles
It does look a bit irritated, doesn't it. The tentacles appear somewhat retracted and the coral's not fully inflated. This could simply be a reaction to the stress of being relocated. Are the tips of the tentacles sticky, and is it accepting food?
Re: Elegance coral bubbles
Tried feeding it PE mysis earlier, no interest.
Mouths are closed, which I'm taking as a good sign. Tentacles aren't sticky, though.
Now it's fully retracted into its base, barely any tentacles visible.
When it does extend, it's not fully inflated, but it does look bigger here than it did at the LFS.

Re: Elegance coral bubbles
Not great signs, I agree. Stress from moving is still a possibility, though. How did you go about feeding it - did you just place the food right on the mouth? Also, what's the flow like where it's positioned?
Re: Elegance coral bubbles
It's been expanding a bit more each day, which is a good sign. The bubbly tentacles are still only on one side, though. I tried feeding it by letting the food drift over the tentacles and also placed some near the mouth, but still no luck. Given it had only been in the system a day, I'm not too concerned about that yet. As for flow, it's in a moderate linear current for the most part, with some occasional oscillations.
Re: Elegance coral bubbles
If the coral doesn't show more improvement, I'd consider relocating it to an area with gentler water movement, might help reduce stress.
Re: Elegance coral bubbles
Still got those bubbly tentacles, but no signs of stinging yet. Had a breakthrough with feeding today though - turned off the pumps and it chowed down on some mysis shrimp. It actually folded in around the food and ate it, which is a great sign. No expanding and contracting or webbing to report, just those stubborn bubbly tentacles on one side.
