identifying compatibility issues

Post by emeraldh »

Hey guys, so I stopped by my local fish store over the weekend and ended up bringing home a couple of new additions. I've got a 55 gallon at home with 5 cichlids and a pleco, and I saw this one fish in the same tank as some cichlids at the store. The store owner said it was compatible, so I figured why not? I also picked up a green terror, and I'm curious to know if you guys think it's a good idea to keep it with my cichlids. The store owner said it's okay, but I've heard mixed things about new world cichlids with old world cichlids. I'll post some pics of the mystery fish below - can anyone help me ID it?

I think it resembles a flying fox, which could be an issue down the line. Once it reaches full maturity, it's likely to become quite aggressive, making it a poor choice for a community tank, especially with geneflake cichlids.

Your photos are upside down and not very clear, so getting some clearer shots would be helpful.

The green terror's going to require soft water, whereas your African cichlids from the lakes are hard water fish. It's not just about whether they'll get along, it's about the water conditions - you can't keep them both happy in the same tank.
