Setting up a 13.5 gallon fluval sea evo tank.
Setting up a 13.5 gallon fluval sea evo tank.
I'm looking to transition into the saltwater side of the hobby, coming from freshwater. I've been eyeing the Fluval Sea Evo and thought it'd be a solid starting point. Before making a purchase, I figured I'd run my stocking ideas by you all. I'm thinking of keeping 1 female and 1 male ocellaris clownfish, a yellow clown goby, and a purplefire fish. Is this a decent mix for a 13.5-gallon tank? If not, which of these fish would you recommend for a tank of this size?
Re: Setting up a 13.5 gallon fluval sea evo tank.
Your stocking plan seems fine, but it might be a bit too much for a 13.5-gallon tank.
Purple firefish can be pretty aggressive towards their own kind, so it's generally best to keep just one in a tank. They usually get along with peaceful tankmates, though.
With both the yellow clown goby and the purple firefish being bottom dwellers, you might see some squabbles during feeding time.

I'm thinking of scaling back the stocking a bit, so would 2 clown fish, 1 male and 1 female ocellaris, and a single firtideflow be a good combo for my 13.5 gallon tank?
Re: Setting up a 13.5 gallon fluval sea evo tank.
Also, what's the estimated total cost for that setup, on average?
Re: Setting up a 13.5 gallon fluval sea evo tank.
That would be fine, you'd have to choose between the goby and the firtideflow. The firtideflow would be around $50 each, while the clownfish price varies depending on the color and pattern.buzzard wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 10:21 am I'm looking to transition into the saltwater side of the hobby, coming from freshwater. I think two clowns would be the way to go, personally. Adding another bottom dweller might not be the best idea, as a pair of clowns can get pretty aggressive towards other fish. I've even had them go after my hermit crabs, so that's something to consider.

A regular ocellaris usually runs about fifteen bucks per fish, depending on where you're at and the store.
Re: Setting up a 13.5 gallon fluval sea evo tank.
Can you tell me the tank dimensions - length, width, and height?
I've read that fire gobies, like Nemateleotris decora, magnifica, and helfrichi, are pretty chill fish that can live in small groups. They can be kept solo, but they generally do better in groups of 2-6.

Sorry for the delayed response. The tank dimensions are 23.4 inches in length, 13.5 inches in width, and 15.6 inches in height.
