Filter question
Just set up my 75g and got an FX6. Figured it could handle the bioload on its own, but thinking of adding a second filter for extra peace of mind. Polar Aurora filter is what I'm considering - any thoughts on it?

I gotta say, I think a single FX6 would be overkill for a 75g tank, especially with discus. The flow would be more akin to a saltwater setup, which might not be ideal for your freshwater inhabitants.

I'm running dual SunSun HW-3000s on my 75, mainly for redundancy and extra bio media. Most filters, including the FX6, have adjustable flows, so you should be able to dial it in. That FX6 is a beast, though.

You can run both filters, just dial back the flow using the valves. Make sure to follow Fluval's instructions when doing this.

Re: Filter question
You could run multiple filters, but a single FX6 is pretty excessive for a 75 gal. I've got one on my 6 foot 125 gal and it does the job with plenty of flow for the entire tank.

I've had good results with an Aquaclear 110 on my own 75-gallon tank.

I've got a few of those AC110s, they're top-notch, easy to use and reliable - the perfect filter for a hassle-free setup.

I have a few of those ac110's. The best and simplest filter ever made.
I'm with you on this, not much to worry about.

Re: Filter question
I've got an FX6 on a 90g tank, similar to your 75g, and it's working out just fine. I also have an Eheim canister on the tank, but I've reduced the FX6's flow significantly by adjusting the dial and positioning the outlets to point towards the surface. This creates some surface agitation and helps divert the flow. Both filters are on their lowest setting and aimed in the same direction, no issues so far. For a 75g, I'd probably just stick with a HOB as a secondary filter, if anything. Honestly, you don't really need another filter, but having one on hand in case the FX6 fails might be a good idea.
