glo-betta alternatives

That's sad to hear they're already pushing out glo-betta. Honestly, I'm not a fan of glo fish, just not my thing.

The weirdly shaped fish like those balloon mollies, they're basically genetic mutations. Normal fish are bred and produce heaps of young. In the wild, the deformed ones would normally get eaten because they can't swim as well or their color makes them more visible. What happens is, instead of culling these fish when they're first noticed, breeders keep the deformed young and grow them up. Then they breed the deformed fish to encourage the deformity, which is how we end up with these weirdly shaped fish.

When I got those balloon rams and mollies, the pet store said they're just regular rams and mollies, so I bought 'em. I had no idea till last month.

I'd take mutated fish over genetically modified ones any day, just to clarify I'm not a fan of balloons and such. It's really sad, fish are already amazing, pretty, and cool to look at, plus there are tons of bright and colorful varieties out there that don't need modification.

Those glo-betta are a shame. Betta fish are stunning just the way they are, no need for genetic modification.

I think the genetically modified fish might actually live longer and be healthier than the deformed ones, like those balloon fish.
