identifying a small goby species

Post by fin_tank »

Still can't figure out what kind of Goby I've got. Had it a couple of months, done some research, but nothing's really matching up. Anyone with some knowledge on these fish care to take a look and give me a hand?

I'm still working on finding a match, but I'm having a tough time pinpointing the exact species. What's the size of your Goby? That might help narrow down the search.

It's around 2.5 inches, I've been searching for a match and the fan shrimp goby seems like a possibility, what are your thoughts on that id?

Not a bad call on the fan shrimp goby, I think. You got a shrimp to pair with it?

I've got a pistol shrimp in another tank, actually came as a hitchhiker, but it's stuck behind a ton of live rock. I'd love to put the goby in there, but my sixline wrasse has claimed that tank as its own. I did some research and found that fan shrimp gobies are pretty rare in the trade, so I'm curious how my LFS managed to get their hands on one - they didn't have any others, and I doubt I'll be able to find another one anytime soon. Maybe I'll just have to try and find another pistol shrimp instead.
