about the dragon wrasse
Just seen a fluxeon wrasse at the lfs, i think thats what it was called, anyway i love 'em. Got a good price on it too, only £18. Can anyone give me some info on these fish, what can i keep with them, are they reef safe, that sort of thing?
Re: about the dragon wrasse
Fluxeon wrasses are indeed beautiful. However, they do have some major drawbacks. They are extremely aggressive towards invertebrates, attacking anything from snails to crabs, hermits, sea cucumbers, and even bristleworms. Their hunting method can be quite destructive for a reef tank. They tend to pick up small rocks and pebbles, then drop or throw them around, searching for hidden inverts. This means you'd have to maintain a tank without a proper cleanup crew and no loose small rocks. Not ideal for a reef environment. On the other hand, they're great for a fish-only setup.
Re: about the dragon wrasse
I had a feeling it'd be the case, seems like every fish I take a liking to isn't reef-friendly. I'm set on having a reef tank, no fish-only for me. Just my luck, everything I've chosen so far isn't really compatible. I'm in need of some new ideas, and fast.
Re: about the dragon wrasse
I'm having the same issue, all my favorite fish aren't reef safe. The fluxeon wrasse, if I recall, goes through some changes as it matures, which affects its appearance, it just doesn't look as awesome as it does when it's younger.
Re: about the dragon wrasse
I've got a rather... straightforward approach to this problem. Just toss 'em in and hope for the best. Make sure they're well-fed, and maybe, just maybe, your inverts will survive the onslaught. Dragon wrasse can coexist with certain corals, as long as they're securely attached. But let's be real, most mobile inverts are fair game for these guys.

Look into some Anthias or reef-safe Wrasses, Victor, might be worth a shot.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a closer look at Anthias and reef-safe Wrasses. I've just updated my journal, if you've got a spare minute to check it out, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
