observations of a red zebra

Hi everyone,

super excited to be posting on fish forums for the first time.
 
i've got a 20 gallon tank with 2 red ob zebra's in it (along with some other fish) and i've noticed the female does this weird thing where she gets a bunch of eggs in her mouth, but only holds onto them for a few days before they're gone. this has happened a bunch of times - at least 7 or 8 times now.
 
i've read that cichlids can take a few tries to get it right, but this is every single time. also, i think it's less likely she'll ever hold onto them since she's the dominant one - she's always chasing the male around the tank and he spends most of his time hiding behind a rock to get away from her.
 
any ideas what's going on?
