about the cross
I'm looking to sell my cichlid fry, but I'm having trouble coming up with a name for them. I've got a cross between a Kenyi and a Red Zebra, and also a Kenyi and a Bumblebee - what would you guys call them?
Re: about the cross
If you're certain they're hybrid, it's best to rehome them. If there's a possibility they might be hybrid, I'd recommend growing them out for a bit and keeping a close eye on them - if you notice any signs of hybridization, it's best to let them go. It's not an easy decision, but if you don't, you risk them further hybridizing or someone buying them under false pretenses, which just perpetuates the issue. I personally wouldn't dream of passing on a fish I knew for certain was a hybrid.
Re: about the cross
I'm with lentoa on this one. The market's already flooded with mixed breeds, so let's not add to the problem. If you're serious about breeding for the purpose of selling, focus on a single species and work with a dedicated breeding group. That way, you can offer purebred fish to buyers. If you suspect cross-breeding in your tank, you've got a couple of options - either let nature take its course and let the babies become a snack for the adults, or keep them for your own tank.
Re: about the cross
I wouldn't let them spawn in the tank, there's a risk some might survive and interbreed with your stock. Stripping the eggs and using them as food for your fish is a better option.
