Considering the movement you mentioned earlier, I'm starting to think it could be a small bivalve, possibly an oyster, that's permanently attached to your octospawn.

It's been stationary on the branch since I first got the octospawn, no movement at all.

A dip didn't kill it, huh? I'm really curious to know what this thing is - it seems to be pretty resilient.

I'm fairly certain it's an oyster. Not the type we typically eat, but an oyster nonetheless.
