Cleaner shrimp attacking frogspawn coral.

Just got my first LPS frag, a bracing Frogspawn, and I'm already dealing with some unexpected drama. Decided to try target feeding with some mysis and my cleaner shrimp swooped in.

He wasn't super aggressive, but still a bit concerning - once the coral closed up, he lost interest and backed off. Not really sure how much of the food each one got, but I'm a bit worried the shrimp might hurt the coral. Has anyone else had any experience with this kind of thing?

In my experience, the shrimp is just after the food and won't bother the frogspawn itself. That being said, I have seen them go after the dead or dying parts of a coral - I'm assuming that's when they sense an easy meal.

My experience with peppermint shrimp is they'll eat healthy plate coral and frogspawn - no issues with that. They really went to town on the gsp though. Buyer beware, that's all I'm saying.

I've had similar issues with my shrimp going after food near corals. To minimize this, I've started putting some pellets at the bottom of the tank for them to snack on while I'm feeding.

Did they cause serious damage to the corals in your experience?

This evening I gave it another shot while he was on the opposite side of the tank. Went much smoother this time, though he did trample across my new zoos - let's just say they weren't thrilled about it.

Peppermint shrimp can be coral munchers, while other cleaner shrimps tend to leave them be.
