Is my betta suffering from tail rot?

Post by Vagoda »

Hey there, I've got a bit of a concern with my crowntail betta - his fins have these black, curling tips and I'm not sure if it's fin rot or not. It's kinda hard to diagnose. I've already got some meds on hand just in case, but I'd love to get some opinions from you guys. Does anyone know how to upload a photo here, my file's too big and I'd love to share a pic of my little guy's fins.

Sounds like fin rot to me, I've had it before with my betta, the black and curling tips on the fins are pretty common symptoms. Have you tried changing the water recently or adding any new decorations to the tank, that can sometimes cause stress which can lead to fin rot.

To upload a photo, you can try resizing it first, there are websites that can do it for you or you can use a photo editing software to make it smaller.

Hi Vagoda, I'd be happy to help you figure out what's going on with your betta's fins. The black and curling tips do sound a bit concerning, and fin rot is definitely a possibility. Can you tell me a bit more about your tank's water parameters and how long you've noticed this issue? That might help us narrow down the cause. As for uploading a photo, you can try resizing the image to make it smaller, or use a photo hosting site and share the link here.

It's not finrot, and I wouldn't treat the tank. Finrot's usually a bacterial or protozoan infection that eats away at the fins and fin rays. To prevent finrot and other diseases, regular water changes and gravel cleans are key to keeping the tank clean.

Those black tips on your betta's fins just look like colouration to me, and the fish appears healthy, at least from the picture.

Thanks, that's a huge relief. His tank's always spotless, I'm really glad to hear it's just coloration. He's loving the extra space in the 10 gal, I was getting worried sick about him.
