seeking black and white dalmatian puffer fish

Post by tidecaster »

Hi,
I'm after a Black & White Dalmatian toad puffer, can anyone point me in the right direction on where to get one and what the correct Latin name is. Not having much luck with my LFS so far.

It seems you're on the right track with that Arothron family, Em. I'd suggest taking a closer look at nigropunctatus or stellatis - they might be the ones you're after.

Hello,

I think it'll be either Arothron nigropunctatus or Arothron meleagris. I'd love to know where you can get one from, as I'm having no luck with my LFS. Got a tank ready for it?

I'm inclined to agree with Arothron nigropunctatus, but honestly I'm not entirely sure. What I do know is that these puffers aren't exactly friendly and will eat pretty much anything that fits in their mouth.

Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it. I've finally confirmed it's from the Arothron Nigropunctatus family, and as some of you mentioned, it's a colour morph. It's proving a bit tricky to get hold of, but it's definitely worth the effort - what a stunning fish!
