are the eggs hatched?

Post by coral9 »

My mouthbrooder's eggs were supposed to hatch on Dec 30th, according to my calendar. Still no eating going on with her, and I just can't get a good look at what's in her mouth. I'm thinking she didn't have a huge clutch to begin with - first time breeding and all. So, how much longer should I be waiting to see some action? What's the best course of action here? Thanks.

Whether you plan on keeping the fry or not is a big factor here. For her first few broods, I'd personally recommend leaving her in the tank - it's just easier that way. If you do decide you want to keep the fry later on, after she's had some breeding experience, you can remove her to her own setup and let her release them naturally. I used to do this around day 18 or 20, and from what I've seen, they typically brood the fry for about 21 to 25 days.
