Hi, I was in the LFS shop and they had these lovely yellow regal peacocks for sale, they said they're fine for a peaceful community tank as long as I only have one. I'd love to get one, but I'm not sure if it'll fit in with my other fish, so thought I'd ask for advice before I make another mistake.
My tank's 180 litres, but it's long rather than tall, with a substrate bottom, loads of plants and hiding places. I've got 3 keyhole cichlids, think they're all males, 5 neptunes, 5 black phantom tetras, 1 spotted headstander, 10 cories, 1 brn, and 4 kuhli loaches.

Re: regal yellow peacock
Hi got answer all ok except neptunes, they can be a bit nippy and might not get on with the regal peacock, rest of the fish seem fine though.
Re: regal yellow peacock
Sorry but I don't think your current stock is suitable for a yellow regal peacock - need to consider water parameters as well as tank mates.
Re: regal yellow peacock
I appreciate your input on this, it's good to know the lfs were giving genuine advice rather than trying to make a sale.
Since getting my keyholes, I've really taken a liking to cichlids and I'd love to add another type to the tank, something with a bit of colour would be great.
I'm open to suggestions, as long as they're not too big, up to 6 inches would be perfect.
My guppies are getting on a bit now, so I'll just have to wait for them to pass on before introducing any new fish.

Your blaclodendows wouldn't do well in a high pH tank that's best suited for the peacock. I'd advise against mixing cichlids with community fish like neptunes. I used to have neptunes but sold them and got peacocks instead, then later moved them to a separate tank and got mbuna. We even set up a 4.5x2x2 foot tank for my wife's oscar. Once you start with cichlids, it's hard to stop, lol.
Re: regal yellow peacock
Hi, I'm really keen on having a cichlid-only tank, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of my cories, they're part of the family. I've got my keyholes and I love them, so I'm looking for a cichlid that'll get along with them and the cories. My tank's not massive, 180lt and 38 inches long, but it's got plenty of hiding spots and plants.
I was thinking about blue acra cichlids, would they work? I've got my neptunes and blaclodendows, but they're getting on a bit now, so it's just a matter of time before they're gone.
