I've noticed that those who've been around the longest stick to what works. They've seen many newcomers try to do things differently, only to end up with discus that don't reach their full potential, get sick, and eventually die. These veterans have tried and tested methods that have been refined over time.

I think it's unfair to dismiss their experiences and knowledge as being outdated. Just because some people want to try new approaches doesn't mean that what's worked for years is no longer relevant.

In my opinion, it's not just about genetics determining size and shape. Clean water and proper nutrition play a huge role in a discus's development. Take any living creature out of its ideal environment and it will struggle to reach its full potential.

I'm gonna keep it straightforward, no need to overcomplicate things. Discus thrive on water changes, it's as simple as that. I've been keeping them since the 70s, and their requirements haven't changed much.

You don't necessarily need to do daily water changes, but it makes a difference. Every other day might be a bit too much, but if you can manage it, your discus will appreciate it.

It's like any other hobby - the more effort you put in, the more you get out of it. I change my water whenever I feel like it, sometimes daily, sometimes every three days. I personally don't like going a week without a change, but that's just me.

The key takeaway is that discus love water changes. The more you put into their care, the greater the rewards.

To put it simple, and that is the way my mind works, Discus love WCs.
I kept them in the 70s and they are no different these days.
The more WCs you do, the happier they are.

Do you have to change the water every day? No.
Every other day? I think not.
However, if you do, you will see a difference.

It is like every other hobby.
The more you put into it, the more you get out of it.

I change my water as often as I feel like doing it.
Sometimes it is every day.
Sometimes it's every 3rd day.
I do not like to go a week as some do.

Again, Discus love WCs.
The more effort you put into your fish, the greater the rewards.

Just my 2 cents.

Totally agree with this, more clean water means bigger and happyer fish.

I'm after the sweet spot where water changes meet growth potential. Not about illnesses, just the stunt/no stunt threshold. Assuming a 75g tank, 10 three-inch fish, moderate feeding (4x/day, no BH), I figure daily 50% water changes won't stunt most of them. Now, if I scale back to 50% water changes 4x a week, will I stunt the majority of them?
