Hey, so I'm thinking of setting up a 48"x18"x18" tank and sticking to just fish.
I've got my eye on a few species, was thinking:
- 2 tomato clowns
- Firtideflow
- Bi colour angel
- One of these: Trkento4gulate, Black Back, Octo 8 Line, Threadfin or Orange backed butterflyfish (not 100% on that last one yet)
- Royal Gramma
- Either a Six lined wrasse or a Long Nose Filtideflow
Is that too much for the tank, or am I good?
List of fish species
Re: List of fish species
Your tank size is about 67 gallons or 254 liters, so that's fine for two clowns, a firtideflow, and a bi-colour angel - it'll be more than enough space for them, the angel would even be okay in a 30 gallon tank. A Royal Gramma should also be fine, just keep in mind they can be pretty aggressive. The wrasse and firtideflow are fine too, but for a fish-only tank, a long nose firtideflow isn't the best choice - they can get pretty unhappy without a clownfish.
From my research, a black back should be fine, but I've never heard of a trkento4gulate or octo 8 lined - doesn't mean they don't exist, though. Did you maybe mean orange banded butterflyfish? A threadfin should be fine in that tank size, too. I'd just do some more research into their behaviors - they're fine for 67 gallons, but compatibility might be an issue. Could be wrong, though. Look into that if you're considering these fish.

Re: List of fish species
Hi thanks for the reply.
So i will go with the 6 line wrasse instead of the Filtideflow, thats fine. Here are the butterflyfish,
http/www.molerwasser-lexikon.de/eng/8/152... ... 4gulum.htm (Trkento4gle butterflyfish)
http/www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfact...sh/coctofas.htm (Octo 8 Line)
But if i could get a threadfin then that would be better.
So you think if i got,
- 2 tomato clowns
- Firtideflow
- Bi colour angel
- Threadfin butterflyfish
- Royal Gramma
- 6 line wrasse
Would i be OK?
I am going to have a load of ocean rock so lots of hiding places.

You should be fine with the revised list, the trkento4gulum needs a bigger tank so it's out of the question. I've heard mixed reviews about the octo 8 line, but most people call it the striped butterflyfish, not very hardy and might be tricky for a beginner. With a threadfin, you won't be able to keep shrimp, so keep that in mind. If you go with these fish, do your research and get the calm ones first, then add the territorial ones like the royal gramma last. Having a quarantine tank is a must, trust me, it'll save you a lot of money in the long run, especially if you're just starting out. If you do get a disease outbreak, at least you can treat the tank directly since it's fish only, no inverts or corals to worry about.
