are shoaling mbuna suitable?

Post by floriana »

I just wanted to share this because I think it's really cool about my Mbuna - they're all the same age and have formed this tight little group. They even display that classic shoaling behavior, which I don't often see in Mbuna. I've had other African cichlids in the past, and none of them have done this.

This video was taken during feeding time, but they do this all the time.

I've gotta say, that's really impressive. Even my emperor tetras, they don't quite get that tight, you know?

I've noticed my acei tend to shoal as well, and even my copadichromis females will do the same, even when it's not feeding time. I also have a couple of fish that seem to prefer swimming about in pairs.

I've got Electric Yellows and Blue Zebras, do they exhibit this behavior too?

African Cichlids, they're brilliant fish, known to hunt in schools even with other species, its a pretty cool thing to see, they really work together.

My Electric Yellows still do this till one of the other cichlids breaks it up, it's pretty funny to watch.

A few of mine like to hang out in a tight little group, but it doesn't last long - one of the others always seems to come along and charge them, breaking the group up.
