Your betta is a betta splendens, by the way. The coloring on his head might be normal, considering these fish can have pretty varied coloration. I'd recommend doing a water change and giving him a few weeks to settle in - he might color up more after that. I'm no betta expert, but I'm sure some of the regulars here can offer more insight.

I'd say it's possibly a mix between mcorastoma and some species from the splendens complex, mahachaiensis being a strong contender.
