nutrition for breeding kribs
nutrition for breeding kribs
I've got a pair of yellow finned Kribs, not sure the exact type, and they've spawned once but ended up eating the eggs. I'm looking for the best foods to feed them to encourage more spawns. My tank's at 80 degrees and all the breeding parameters are good. What foods would you recommend to get them spawning regularly? Also, I've got them in a 20g, but I was curious - could they thrive in a 10g? Not planning on downgrading, just wondering.

Re: nutrition for breeding kribs
I'd recommend feeding them live blackworms, frozen bloodworms, and brine shrimp for a nutritious diet. A good quality cichlid flake or pellet is also essential. I personally like to add a bit of spirulina flake to my fish's meals, including these guys. As for tank size, I've had a pair of Kribs in a ten-gallon before, but to be honest, it's not ideal. Whatever tank you decide to keep them in, make sure there are plenty of hiding spots for the female - you know, just in case the male gets a bit aggressive.

I've already got live blackworms on the way, actually needed them anyway. I've got the caves and all that covered. How long does it usually take for them to spawn again? They're currently on twice a day feedings of bloodworms and tetracolor mix.oakleyride wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 3:41 pm I'd recommend feeding them live blackworms, frozen bloodworms, and brine shrimp for a nutritious diet. Re: nutrition for breeding kribs
Within a week or two, you can expect them to spawn again if you remove the eggs.

I appreciate the advice, thanks for the help

Just wanted to update - my female's getting ready to spawn again, it's been 3 weeks since the last batch.

Thanks, I'm gonna keep that in mind. 18 days between spawns for me. Thinking of trying Nurtafin or Max, maybe that'll speed things up.
