I’m devastated and miss them already

Post by Blossp »

I'm facing a tough situation - due to unforeseen events, I'll be leaving the Middle East and I won't be able to take my discus with me. I'm really going to miss my discus tanks, and the thought of leaving them behind is heartbreaking. I've seen some stories about this, but I'm still unsure how you guys handle such situations.

I want to express my gratitude to all of you for your support and for sharing your valuable experiences over the years. I'll miss every single one of my discus - I have a crew of 20+6, and each one is special to me.

I've shared some threads about my discus tanks in the past, but I'd like to share a collection of my best photos with you all. You can find them here: https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0dGrq0zwuGWsWl. I hope you enjoy them.

What's the time frame for your move? Are you headed back to the States or somewhere else? Do you have any plans for shipping or is it just not feasible?

I wish I could take all my discus with me, but unfortunately, getting export approval is extremely difficult, almost impossible.

What's the plan for your discus? Will someone be taking care of them for you?

Luckily I found a trusted discus keeper, so I hope they'll be fine there

Your discus are stunning, I can feel the pain you're going through. I had to rehome mine years ago due to unexpected events - it was tough. IT SUCKS, I still miss the daily routine, the thrill of watching them thrive. Hopefully someday I'll set up another fishroom, and I'll be back to keeping discus and those beautiful large cichlids.

I feel you, I have to split my time between places now and it's tough being away from my discus. We spend summers out west and while it's beautiful, I miss my daily fish room routine - those quiet mornings spent with my fish. I've got auto feeders in place and a trusted expert checking on things, but it's just not the same as being there myself. I'm counting down the days till I can get back around Labor Day.

I just couldn't bear the thought of an empty room, so I'm starting anew. Stand, sump, and tank are all set and waiting to be assembled. I've made a few tweaks to the setup, including swapping out the socks for a rolling matte in the sump.
