just a quick one, do malawis interbreed with other malawis? i have an electric blue johanni and he's really putting on a show, shimmering and shaking at everything around him - not aggressively chasing other fish, just seems like he's showing off, or is this just a dominance thing?

It really depends on the species, but I'd say your electric blue johanni is probably just being territorial - that shimmering and shaking is likely his way of showing dominance, especially if he's not aggressively chasing the other fish. As for interbreeding, some Malawis can spawn with other Melanochromis, so be careful with that.
