Can different types of torch corals touch each other

Post by lunar9 »

I just got a tri-colored torch and I'm thinking of placing it near my gold torch. Is it alright if they're in close proximity to each other, or do I need to keep them separate?

I've always thought Euphyllia corals were pretty chill with each other, but I recall a recent thread where folks shared some pretty rough interactions between different morphs. If you're gonna put them next to each other, just be aware that one might bully the other - even if they're different colors. Good luck with it.

I'm aware same species get along fine, I mean that's how they were arranged in the store and they all seemed content, but I'm still a bit concerned about mixing different types.

Torches don't seem to mesh well, need their space. Never really seen them get along in a group, but I guess you never know.

I'm with you on same species being fine, but since mine are different, I'm hoping someone with firsthand experience can share their thoughts on how they've worked out for them.

Just dug this up - "Torch Corals are generally chill with their own kind, but things get hairy when other types within the same family are around." Now to decipher this...

If that's the case, then they should all get along fine since they're all classified as E. Glabrescens. My Indo and Aussie are right next to each other, even touching, and I haven't had any issues.

Torch genus is Euphyllia and the family is Euphyllidae. Other genera in that family include Catalyphyllia, Nemenzophyllia, Plerogyra, and Physogyra.

Thanks sweetie_22, really appreciate the clarification on the family and genus. So, what are some of the common names for those other corals you listed - Catalyphyllia, Nemenzophyllia, Plerogyra, and Physogyra?
