why do my leaves look burned?

Post by coppera »

My Anubias leaves are turning brown at the edges, and some look crispy. Tank is a 20 gallon, with LED lights on for 8 hours a day. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Could it be the light?

Yo, sounds like light burn to me. Anubias don't need much light, they're chill like that. Maybe cut the light to 6 hours or move 'em to a shady spot. What's your light intensity like?

Agreed. Anubias are low-light plants. If your LED is too strong, even 6 hours might be too much. Try floating plants to diffuse the light or raise the light higher. Also, check for algae, as that can indicate excess light.

I had the same issue with my Java Fern. Turned out the light was too intense. I dimmed it and the new leaves grew in fine. Maybe try that?

My tank has similar issues. The leaves started browning after I added CO2. Could that be a factor here?

CO2 can cause melt if not balanced with light and nutrients. What's your CO2 ppm? If it's too high without enough light or ferts, plants can't use it properly and might burn.

Dunno much, but my Anubias got messed up when I used too much fertilizer. Maybe back off the ferts?

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try reducing the light and see if that helps. The LED is pretty bright, so that might be it.

Good call. Let us know how it goes. If the leaves keep browning, might wanna check for nutrient deficiencies too. Peace out.
