Overcoming self-doubt

Post by Sampson »

I'm getting these weird floating things in my Biotape aquarium, don't know what they are. Recently added some Jungle Vallisneria and other plants from the local river, and 5 days later these things show up. Anyone know what they are and how to get rid of them, I also have Jewel fish in this tank.

I'm having trouble making out the pics, but they resemble bubbles, similar to those in a beta's bubble nest. What's your tank's fish population like? It's possible they're some kind of eggs, but I'm leaning towards bubbles.

Wishing you a happy new year and hoping this helps.

EDIT- I'll just gloss over the fact that you can collect wild val - that's awesome. Our local creeks are pretty bare, but one has a section completely choked up with frogbit, which I'm pretty sure was carelessly flushed down the drain by an aquarist who didn't know better.

I'm really not sure what those little floating things are, could you possibly get a closer picture of them? It's definitely not duckweed, is it, or something a bit more exotic?

You keep jewels, huh. I'm starting to think I'm the only one without access to a magical val-filled creek. BadgersSong, I wouldn't say so... duckweed's definitely green, not white. I'm sticking with my bubble theory, maybe from a fish or air rising from the plants or substrate. OP, try taking one out and placing it on a paper towel - if it's a bubble, it'll pop; if it's an egg or something, it should stay the same.

Yeah bro I have male & female Jewel, but male's always chasing so I separated them. When I collected Jungle Val and some other plants, I had Rohani Barbs in the next tank - one Barb jumped into Jewel tank. 2 days later, Barb's gone.

Can't really see much from the pics, need a better description of those little floating things - do they move around or just stay put?
