My betta's been acting kinda sluggish lately, fins look a bit clamped. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Tank's a 5 gallon with a sponge filter, heated to 78F. Any ideas what's up?

Could be stress, dude. How often you do water changes? Even with good params, buildup of dissolved organics can mess with them. Try a 20% change every 3 days for a week, see if they perk up.

Agreed with swiftfinch7. Also, check for any sharp decor or strong flow from the filter. Bettas hate current, and torn fins can lead to infections. I'd add some Indian almond leaves too, helps with stress and has antibacterial properties.

Mine did the same thing last month. Turned out the heater was sketchy, temp was swinging. Got a new one and he chilled out in a couple days. Maybe double-check your heater's consistency?

Yep, almond leaves are magic. My guy's colors got way brighter after I started using them. Just don't overdo it, turns the water tea-colored real quick.

Parasites are sneaky. I'd also recommend a garlic soak for the food if appetite's low. Just crush a tiny bit of fresh garlic into tank water, soak pellets for 5 mins. Stimulates their hunger like crazy.

Second the garlic trick. Also, if you're using tap water, double-check your conditioner. Some brands don't handle chloramines well, and residual stuff can irritate their gills. Seachem Prime's my go-to.

Anyone else notice bettas get weird vibes from LED lights? Mine always hides when I crank up the brightness. I keep mine at 50% now with floating plants to diffuse it, way happier.
