A percula clownfish as a pet

Post by rivulet9 »

I'm planning to get my tank in order first, with the right specific gravity and more live rock - mostly base rock. After that, I'm thinking of getting a boyfriend for my Female Percula clown. Besides an anemone, I'm curious to know what you guys think would be a suitable home for her.

I've considered a few options, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Would a Torch Coral or a Frogspawn be a good fit? Maybe a Plate Coral - either the long tentacle or short variety? Any other suggestions are welcome, I know it's hard to say for sure, but I'd appreciate your input based on your experience or what you think might work best.

I've had a similar experience with my percula, it's hosted by different corals at different times. Initially, it was my xenia that provided a home, but after the xenia was gone, I noticed my hammer takes over hosting duties when the lights are out.

My clown's actually quite fond of my torch coflake, it's a pretty sweet setup. They also seem to enjoy hanging out in the mat of green star polyps I've got going on. To be honest, my clownfish aren't too fussy about their accommodations anymore - they've even been known to take a dip in the hair algae, which is pretty amusing.

I'd also consider a sarcophyton for hosting, they're a good option to have in mind, alongside the others mentioned.

they host just about anything, seen them on veggie clips, even a few weird things like a filter outlet.

I agree, my clown's kinda taken a liking to a pile of empty hermit crab shells. Not exactly ideal, but I'm on a tight budget at the moment, can't quite swing a coflake or an anemone just yet.
