What's Your Favorite Floating Plant?

Post by Wildzone »

I've been experimenting with floating plants lately and wanted to know what everyone's favorite is. I've got Duckweed and Frogbit in my 20-gallon, but I'm curious about other options. What's working for you?

I'm a big fan of Water Lettuce. It's got those long roots that my shrimp love to hide in, and it spreads just enough without taking over. Plus, it's great for soaking up excess nutrients.

I've only tried Duckweed so far. It's kinda messy but my goldfish seem to like nibbling on it. Gonna try something else soon though.

Salvinia is my go-to. It's got a cool texture and doesn't grow too fast. Perfect for my low-tech setup.

Dude, you gotta try Red Root Floater. It's got this sick red tint under high light, and it's chill with most fish. My bettas love lounging under it.

I've had mixed results with Frogbit. Sometimes it thrives, other times it just melts away. Maybe my water's too soft?

For nutrient control, nothing beats Azolla. It's a nitrogen sponge and turns red under high light. Just be ready to thin it out weekly.

Agreed! Water Lettuce is a winner. My community tank stays cleaner thanks to it.

I'm all about Hornwort. Yeah, it's not a true floater, but if you let it loose, it does the job. My guppies adore it.

If you're into aesthetics, try Amazon Frogbit. The lily-pad-like leaves give a natural vibe, and it's easy to manage. Just don't let it block too much light.
