lost clownfish

Post by Torvik9 »

I woke up this morning to a real head-scratcher - my male clownfish was nowhere to be found, but the female was swimming around like normal. I scoured the live rock, checked on the snails, hermits, and starfish, and there's no sign of him being eaten. It's as if he vanished into thin air. I even checked outside the tank and filter tubes - nothing. He was healthy and eating fine last night when I fed them, no signs of stress or disease. The other clown is doing fine, although she did pick on him a bit, but never hurt him. My ammonia and nitrate tests came back at 0, and the specific gravity is still at 1.023. Everything else in the tank seems fine, I just don't get it. I know I need to run more water tests, but ironically, I'm out of test kits.

That's bizarre. You're certain he didn't get sucked into the filter or something? Do you have any compartments in the back of the tank that he might've gotten into? It's possible one of the CUC members got a little hungry overnight, that's happened before.

Yeah, I've got a similar setup, my tank's had its fair share of over-the-weir moments too, my fish has done it a few times, always seems to swim down to the bottom afterwards, whenever I'm near, that is. Had to lower the water level to stop him doing it, touch wood, it's been a while now.

No right now I only have a hang on filter with a few powerheads in the tank...It's possible he jumped out, but I looked all over...The dog could of ate him, but I doubt lol. I'm going to do a water change and make sure everything else lives. I'll get the female another mate, just hope she doesn't kill it. It's just weird if he did die, what would of caused it? He was perfectly healthy yesterday, I checked everyday for any discoloration or noticeable parasites.
