Lion feeding practices and safety

Post by NexusCore »

I'm having a bit of trouble with my volitan's eating habits. He's only 3 inches and hasn't eaten in a week, which is starting to worry me. He's super picky and only eats guppies. I tried offering him some shrimp today, but he didn't even give it a second glance. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to eat something else?

Give him some time, see how hungry he gets. Maybe try some Krill, see if that sparks interest.

I think they might eat small crayfish, give live brine shrimp a go. Have you tried wiggling shrimp on a feeder stick? Maybe he's just bored with the same old food. Try offering him little bits throughout the day instead of one big meal. Volitans can overeat, so it's best to only feed them 2-3 times a week, maybe he just had one too many guppies. To be honest, it's not easy figuring out why he's not eating - there are a few possible reasons.

If he's acting normally otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much yet, just keep an eye on him and try introducing different foods slowly. Also, if the water temperature has dropped, that might be why he's not eating as much. Have you checked your heater? Is his breathing okay? How long have you had him? Sorry, I'm asking a lot of questions.
