Plants for a High-Tech Nano

Post by Duskfire »

I'm setting up a high-tech nano tank, 10 gallons, and I'm looking for plant recommendations. I've got CO2 injection and a decent light, but I'm not sure what plants will thrive. Any suggestions?

For a high-tech nano, I'd recommend Monte Carlo or Dwarf Hairgrass for carpeting. They spread well under good light and CO2. Stem plants like Rotala Rotundifolia or Ludwigia Repens add color and height. What's your substrate?

I've had luck with Anubias Nana in my nano. It's slow-growing but hardy, and it doesn't need much light. Just attach it to driftwood or rocks. How often are you planning to dose ferts?

I agree with Cubies. Monte Carlo is a great choice. I'd also add some Bucephalandra for texture. It's a bit pricey but worth it.

I'm kinda new to this, but I've heard Java Fern is chill for nanos. Doesn't need much light or CO2. What's the deal with CO2 anyway? Is it really necessary?

CO2 isn't strictly necessary, but it's like giving your plants a turbo boost. They'll grow faster and look better. Just don't overdo it, or you'll gas your fish. Trust me, I learned that the hard way.

In a high-tech setup, you can experiment with more demanding plants. Try Pogostemon Helferi or Hydrocotyle Tripartita. They're stunning but need consistent care. What's your lighting schedule?

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'm using ADA Amazonia substrate and planning to dose ferts weekly. My light's on for 8 hours a day. I'll start with Monte Carlo and Rotala.

That sounds like a solid plan. Just watch for algae with that light schedule. You might need to adjust if you see any issues.

Yeah, algae can be a pain. I'd recommend starting with 6 hours and gradually increasing. Also, keep an eye on your CO2 levels. Too much can cause pH swings.
