Stocking recommendations
I'm setting up a 55 gallon planted tank and need some stocking ideas. I've got a Fluval 307 filter, sand substrate, and moderate lighting. Want a mix of peaceful fish but not sure what'll work together. Any favorites?

For a 55 gallon, you've got tons of options. A school of 12–15 Cardinal Tetras would pop against plants. Pair them with 8–10 Corydoras for bottom activity. Maybe a centerpiece like a pair of German Blue Rams. Just avoid anything too aggressive.

I've got a similar setup with neon tetras and they're super chill. Maybe add some shrimp? My Amanos are fun to watch.

I'd second this but add that Rams need warmer water, around 82–84°F. If you're cool with that, they're stunning.

Ever thought about a dwarf gourami as a centerpiece? They've got personality and won't mess with smaller fish. Just avoid multiples unless the tank's heavily planted.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. The Rams sound tempting but I'll need to upgrade my heater first.

A 200W adjustable heater should do the trick. Eheim Jager's reliable. Also, test your pH—Rams prefer it under 7.0.harmonybob wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 11:41 am Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. The Rams sound tempting but I'll need to upgrade my heater first.

My gourami's a diva but so pretty. Just saying.

If you're going Rams, drip acclimate them. They're sensitive to parameter swings. And skip the shrimp unless you want expensive snacks.
