Transparent aussie gold torch coral

Post by Lumina4 »

Hey everyone, just a quick question - has anyone ever seen this before?

I've got an Aussie Gold torch with two heads, and it's been doing great - good flow, extends fully, and it's healthy. I feed it twice a week, no issues.

I just noticed something weird now, though. When the lights are off and it's fully retracted, the body looks kinda translucent. You can see right through it.

My parameters all look good:

Temp's at 78
Alk's at 9.8
PH's at 8.0
Salinity's 1.023
Mag's 1300
Cal's 450
Nitrates and ammonia are both 0

I'll grab a pic to show you guys, just curious if anyone else has seen this. Thanks!

I've got a similar torch, single head though, and I've never seen that before. Mine's been healthy for years, no issues with flow or extension.

When the lights are off, I've never really looked at it that closely, but now I'm curious. I'll have to take a peek tonight.

What kind of lighting do you have in the tank? I'm wondering if that might be affecting the way the coral looks.

That's completely normal. It's just the flesh or tissue of the Aussie gold torch that's giving it that translucent appearance when the lights are off. As long as it's not receding into the skeleton, you're good to go. Looks like a healthy one to me.

Thanks for the reassurance guys, I was just curious about it. I'm glad to hear it's not a disease or something weird like a "pus" pocket. I was worried it might be a sign of something bad. But if it's just the flesh/tissue, that's a relief. Looking forward to it growing big and strong, and I'll definitely frag it when the time comes.
