queries about kribensis

Post by barkcode »

right, so i've got this lovely pair of kribs, really healthy, picked 'em as a pair. they've already bred twice in the short time i've had 'em, but unfortunately the fry didn't make it due to the current tank setup - hence the thread.

new home's gonna be a 90 litre aquarium, and don't worry about filters and lights, all sorted.

now, onto the questions...
1. what's the best substrate for 'em? i'm thinkin' sand or somethin' similar in size, maybe a mix?
2. tank mates? i'd love to add some, any suggestions?
3. pretty important one... can i put a large shrimp or crayfish in with 'em in the future, if i upgrade to a bigger tank?
4. any other essential stuff i should know or do when creatin' a new krib tank?
5. and finally, any ideas for aquascapes?

cheers guys, been a while since i've been on, so hello. thanks in advance,
iain

So you're setting up a new home for your lovely kribs - are you looking to breed them again or just enjoy them as pets? Either way, a sand or fine gravel substrate, or a mix of the two, should work well for them. As for tank mates, some danios or smaller tetras could be a nice addition - they're pretty easy-going and should get along with your kribs. I'd advise against the crayfish, though - they can be sneaky and might just snatch up one of your smaller fish while they're sleeping. Make sure to include some caves in your aquascape - at least one per krib, so they've got a place to retreat to when they need some alone time. And don't forget some plants - they'll really help your kribs feel at home.

Good advice from someone who clearly knows their stuff. Riverrun4's got loads of experience breeding kribs, and I've found his YouTube vids to be really helpful.

Cheers for the shoutout, mate. I've got a fair bit of experience with breeding kribs, and I've got some vids on YouTube that might be helpful. If you're interested, I've got some examples of successful spawns on my channel. I've even had three pairs of pelvicachromis taeniatus spawn at the same time, which was a real challenge, but also a great learning experience.
