Showcasing hammer corals

Post by microvolt »

Inspired by that awesome torch coral thread, I thought it'd be cool to show off the incredible diversity of hammer corals out there. So, let's see 'em - please specify if you've got a wall (Euphyllia ancora) or branching (E. parancora) type.

I'll kick things off with a simple one to beat, my Aussie green and purple splatter branching hammer. It's currently got 2 heads and some new ones are forming at the base, which is exciting.

I've got a couple to share. First up is my purple and green E. paraancora - nothing too unique, but it's a great example of the classic coloration.

I also have an Aussie bi-color yellow and purple E. paraancora that's looking sharp, the photo's not the best since the light's a bit harsh, I was trying to get a good shot of the chalice in the background, I'll try to get a better one soon.

I'm in.

Got a few hammer corals to show off.

Pinkish tentacles with green tips: started with one head, now I'm at six.

Purplish tentacles with greenish tips: two to three heads.

Greenish tentacles with pinkish tips: eight to ten heads, and they're all doing great.

one of my favorites was this gorgeous orange hammer - had it for years, then lost it during a move, still hurts thinking about it

Bummer about the loss. That orange hammer was a real showstopper.

Got a few,

Wall hammer with a nice green center, and some funky purple tips.

My branching hammer, got some crazy orange and yellow action going on.

Just got this one in the mail, Aussie green and purple splatter - can't wait to see it grow.

Here's my take on a gold wall hammer - it's the one on the bottom front of the rock, pic isn't the best.

Those hammer corals look great. I'm really liking the ones with the bold colors and patterns. I've been eyeing the ORA micronesian E. parancora at my lfs, but I'd love to see how it looks under better lighting - anyone have experience with this one?
