How about some floating plants like Salvinia? They'll shade the tank a bit and help with algae. Plus, they're easy to remove if they take over.

I've got a similar setup, and I'm using Staurogyne Repens. It's a slow grower and stays pretty short. Just needs a bit of trimming now and then.

Dwarf Sagittaria is another option. It's grass-like and stays low in shallow tanks. Just make sure it gets enough light, or it'll stretch.

If you're open to a bit more maintenance, Monte Carlo is another great carpeting plant for shallow tanks. It doesn't need CO2 if you're patient. Just keep the light consistent and trim regularly.

True, but it's a pain to plant initially. Tweezers are a must unless you wanna lose your mind.
