Yo, check your scissors. Dull blades crush stems instead of cutting clean. Got myself some aqua scaping shears, game changer.

Good point. ADA soil's great but doesn't last forever. How old's your substrate? Might be time for a refresh or supplement.

One more thing, are you using any glutaraldehyde-based products like Excel? Overdosing can melt stems, making them snap easy.
