Fluid pump questions
Fluid pump questions
Anyone got tips for a quiet fluid pump? My current one's buzzing like crazy and it's driving my Betta nuts. Tank's a 20 gallon, planted, with a sponge filter running alongside. Need something chill.
Re: Fluid pump questions
Yo, ditch that noisy thing and grab a Sicce Syncra. They're pricy but worth it, no buzz, just smooth flow. My 20 gal's dead silent now, and the fish dig it.
Re: Fluid pump questions
I've had good luck with the Eheim compactON. It's adjustable, so you can dial in the flow for your Betta. Plus, it's super quiet. What's your water change routine like? Sometimes noise can spike after a change.

Seconding the Sicce. Mine's been running for two years with zero issues. Also, check if your pump's sitting on a hard surface. A foam pad underneath can cut vibrations.

My Fluval SP2 is pretty quiet too. It's got a rubber base that helps with the noise. How old is your current pump? Sometimes they just wear out and start buzzing.
Re: Fluid pump questions
The noise might be from cavitation. Ensure the pump's fully submerged and the intake isn't clogged. Also, avoid sharp bends in the tubing. What's the flow rate on your current pump? A mismatch can cause turbulence.
Re: Fluid pump questions
Thanks for the suggestions, folks. Gonna check out the Sicce and Eheim. My pump's about a year old, and yeah, it's on glass. Maybe a pad would help short-term.
Re: Fluid pump questions
Foam pad's a quick fix, but honestly, just upgrade. You'll thank yourself later. Betta's gonna be way happier without that buzz killing the vibe.
Re: Fluid pump questions
If you're leaning Eheim, the 600 model's perfect for a 20 gal. Also, how often do you clean the sponge filter? A clogged sponge can make the pump work harder.

Re: Fluid pump questions
Rubber mounts are a game-changer. Even with a new pump, I'd still use them. Also, what's your tank temp? Higher temps can thin the water, making pumps noisier.
