Sponge filters are underrated. Simple, effective, and cheap. What's not to love?

True, but they're not great for high bio loads. Fine for a Betta or shrimp tank, but you'll need more for bigger fish.

Yeah, sponges are chill for small setups. I run a canister on my 55 gallon but keep a sponge in there too, just for backup.

Backup filtration is smart. Redundancy saves fish. Learned that the hard way when my HOB died overnight.
