Betta fish and water agitation

I've heard some bettas prefer still water. Maybe try turning off the filter for short periods to see if he perks up? Just don't leave it off too long.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll try reducing the airflow and adding some plants first. Appreciate the help.
