stock list for my new 2x2x2 setup

Post by kangaview »

Hey everyone, I just set up a new 2x2x2 cube marine setup, it's for fish and live rock only. I'm a Discus keeper, so I heat my room to about 32C, which means my tanks are around 30C. I need some fish that can handle these temps.

I'm thinking of getting 2 clown fish and 4 damsels - they seem like a good fit. I'd also like to add 2 starfish. Not sure what else I'll get just yet...any suggestions?

Here's my setup: Pics of my setup

When mixing damsels, you need to be extremely cautious, as clowns are also a type of damsel. Humbugs and Yellow tails, for instance, can be very aggressive, constantly harassing weaker fish and new additions to the tank.

I've heard that Buddyboy has experience with mixing damsels and clowns, and I'm sure he'll be able to provide more insight on the matter. However, from what I know, the species that are suitable for mixing are not typically the ones you'd find at your local fish store.

Regarding your tank's temperature, I'm concerned about the impact it may have on corals. 30 degrees Celsius constantly can be quite stressful for them in a closed system like an aquarium.

Red Sea specimens, on the other hand, are more adapted to higher temperatures, as the Red Sea itself experiences warmer summers and higher specific gravity during those times. Their zooxanthellae are better equipped to handle these conditions, making them less likely to bleach.

I recall watching a documentary where scientists were experimenting with injecting Red Sea zooxanthellae into corals from other regions to test this theory. It was quite fascinating, and it might be worth considering for your tank.

I'm no expert, but I'm not convinced 2 Clowns and 4 Damsels is the best combo. Damsels can be pretty feisty, so I'm worried about aggression issues. I'm sure others will have more insight though.
