Seachem Prime usage guide

Post by Himal »

I've been using Seachem Prime for a while now, but I'm not sure if I'm dosing it correctly. How do you guys measure it for a 20-gallon tank? I usually just eyeball it, but I wanna make sure I'm not over or underdoing it.

For a 20-gallon tank, the recommended dose is 1 mL per 10 gallons, so you'd need 2 mL. It's best to use a syringe for accuracy. Eyeballing can lead to inconsistent results, especially if you're dealing with sensitive fish like discus.

Yep, gaslyte's got it right. I use a little dropper bottle for mine. Also, if you're dealing with ammonia spikes, you can double the dose safely. Prime's pretty forgiving, but why risk it, right?

I've heard some folks say you can use Prime to detoxify nitrites too. Anyone tried that? I've got a nitrite issue in my 55-gallon and wondering if it's worth a shot.

Yeah, it works for nitrites, but it's not a long-term fix. You still gotta figure out why your cycle's messed up. Prime just buys you time.

I'm kinda new to this, but I've been using Prime for my 10-gallon betta tank. It's been a lifesaver. My tap water's got chloramines, and Prime handles it like a champ.

For those with bigger tanks, how do you handle dosing? I've got a 125-gallon and measuring out 12.5 mL every water change is a pain. Any tips?

I use a measuring cup with mL markings for my 75-gallon. It's not perfect, but it's close enough. Prime's pretty concentrated, so a little variance won't hurt.

Anyone else notice Prime smells like rotten eggs? I swear, every time I open the bottle, my whole room stinks. Still worth it though.

Haha, yep, that's the sulfur. It's gnarly, but it's a small price to pay for clean water. I just hold my breath when I pour it.
