need help with identification

Post by hazelnut1 »

Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out the names of all the fish in my tank. I just moved the tank around and the water is a bit misty, so I apologize for that.

I've taken some photos, but they're not very clear since the fish won't stay still for a second. I've also made a video - I've uploaded it here: http/s1222.photobucket.com/user/hazelnut1/media/20130609_195103_zps7e77cf23.mp4.html

I've added some pics below. The two best ones are these -

The yellow one, I think, is an Electric Yellow. That's Labidochromis caeruleus.
The spotty one looks like a Fulleborni Cichlid, Blossom, also known as Labeotropheus fuelleborni.
The striped one, I'm pretty sure, is a Malieri Cichlid, or Julidochromis marlier.
That dull grayish one is probably a Cylindricus Cichlid, Neolamprologus cylindricus.
The blue one, I'm going to take a guess, is a Blue Johanni Cichlid, Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos.

The yellow one is indeed an Electric Yellow (Labidochromis caeruleus), the one with the spots is a Fulleborni Cichlid, Blossom (Labeotropheus fuelleborni), the striped one is a Malieri Cichlid (Julidochromis marlier), the dull gray one is a Cylindricus Cichclid (Neolamprologus cylindricus), and the blue one appears to be a Blue Johanni Cichlid (Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos).

Thanks for the confirmation on those. Now, can you tell me about the bluey/grey one with stripes running top to bottom? He's next to the dark blue one in the first pic below the video.

Honestly, I'm a bit confused about the Julidochromis ID, as I don't see any in the pics. Those yellow ones don't look like Julidochromis or Sunnygolds to me, they seem more like a yellow variant of a Zebra Cichlid. Also, I don't see any Cylindricus in there. Just my thoughts.

As above, I agree there aren't any julies or cylindricus in there. To be honest, I'm not that familiar with malawi cichlids, so can't offer much more insight.

I'm not entirely convinced by the IDs so far, can anyone give me a rundown of the fish in the tank? I've taken a closer look at the pics and I'm having trouble spotting the julidochromis, and those yellows seem more like a zebra cichlid variant to me.

I'm only going off the pics and my thoughts, could be wrong, but that's just my take on it. Seeing it again now, I think the bluey one might not be a Blue Johanni, maybe a different color variation of one though.

I can only give my honest opinion and rule out a few possibilities, unfortunately I'm not clued up enough to give you a solid ID.

Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it. I was thinking of getting some better pics or a video, do you think that would make it easier to identify them?
